Corporate Office Interior Design Trends

office
In 2016, corporate offices are taking a hint from home interior trends. Both offices and homes are looking to increase comfort and decrease stress.

Nature and Serenity
The theme of nature is seen in the colors, textures, and materials used in the new corporate office. Reclaimed wood, stone, and natural lighting have taken the place of certain synthetic materials and the unforgiving, buzzing, unnatural lighting prominent in the office of the past. The popular colors are warmer and softer, mimicking Pantone’s color of the year, which is an ombre pattern of both dusty rose and baby blue. Fake plants have been removed, and hopefully destroyed, and have been replaced by real foliage, including a large variety of succulents. Shades of orange are showing up beside blues and yellows, and complemented by subdued greens and soft beiges.

Adaptability and Movement
The workplace is moving towards a more flexible and adaptable environment. Newer desks have been designed to be reconfigured easily so they can adjust to fit anywhere from one to four people, and workers are no longer confined to their small work area. Community tables are available for workers, who are provided with the opportunity to move to different spaces, including standing area work tables and open lounge areas to promote collaboration and open communication.

Clean and Simple

Desktops, shelves, and other office furniture surfaces are less cluttered, with fewer wires and more open spaces. The wires that do exist are hidden, and miscellaneous technology is streamlined. It is a big departure from the idea of the busy office of the 80s, with rotary phone cords wrapped around chair legs, giant copiers, and the sound of loud clicking on big computers.

Unless you work for Apple or Google, don’t go to work expecting to see all of this yet. The real world is likely to continue to see lots of Formica, plastics, and garish colors. Nonetheless, as workers spend more and more time at the office, it appears that the corporate world is adapting better ways to promote productivity and positive office culture by making the workplace environment more comfortable and less punishing.
